Massachusetts Legislature Passes Bill Adopting UTSA

On July 31, 2018 the Massachusetts legislature passed a long-awaited non-compete and trade secrets reform bill. This bill, which Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker is expected to sign by August 10, largely adopts the language of the Uniform Trade Secrets Act (UTSA). If signed into law, this Massachusetts bill will become effective October 1, 2018 and will leave New York as the lone state that relies exclusively on common law to protect trade secrets.
